Civilization V – Statue of Liberty

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

To all the ignorant people in the comment section…

The US hasn't forgotten this quote, and our "Golden Door" hasn't closed. Just as we always have in our relatively brief existence, we embrace immigrants here in the US with open arms and willing patience. We still still strive to give immigrants the rights and freedoms any individual living in these United States deserves.

But let me specify that there is a siginificant difference between a LEGAL immigrant and an ILLEGAL immigrant.

Back when the Statue of Liberty was constructed and raised here in my hometown of New York City, the immigrants that came to our shores were all legal, and when they arrived here were expected to find their own paths to opportunity and success. There was no welfare system back then. No government programs that gave free aid to citizens, let alone immigrants. No, all the people back then had were their own blood, sweat, and tears. The United States was, and still is, the Land of Opportunity. And it is up to each and every individual, both full citizen and immigrant, to embrace the opportunities available to them and work for their own American Dream.

The American Dream isn't achieved by sitting back and expecting other people and/or the government to give you a helping hand. It is only achieved by hard work and the willingness to go as far as your body and mind are capable.

The United States hasn't changed. But fools like you all who embrace Socialism and the problems of illegal immigration, while fighting the Free Market and ignoring the lessons of history, are the ones trying to change it.
