Auckland Māori service providers team up to tackle community issues

In an attempt
to get better outcomes for whanau in East Auckland, local organisations have called
on support from Waipareira. And as Whatitiri Te Wake reports, the collective will take on
a whanau Maori-centred approach when talking poverty, homelessness
and wellbeing in the area. East meets west to further upskill
the families of East Auckland. Tamaki Regeneration, the community of East Auckland, and Te Whanau o Waipareira have come
together to develop a new project. Waipareira’s project lead says they’ve been working on the project
for the past 12 months. The project aims to deal
with the issues facing the families
of East Auckland. The project lead says
the work will expand on the work already completed by Waipareira
over the years. They also aim to improve
the overall wellbeing of the family, from the top down. The collective is still working out
the finer details, but are confident the initiative
will begin in the new year. Whatitiri Te Wake, Te Karere.
